HISTORY

Organic Sprouts Kitchen is a food project envisioned by Ethan Siegel. He opened a daycare in June, 2007, where he was responsible for developing weekly menus and preparing meals and snacks for the the children. Ethan was committed to using local, organic ingredients in their program and exploring creative ways to prepare nutritious, well-rounded meals that appeal to young children. The Montana State Food Program, which monitors the day care menus, issued Ethan a “Nutrition Award” in 2008 for meeting detailed nutritional requirements.

This type of food program should be available to other educational facilities in Missoula and  we are determined to contribute to the health of our community’s children.  Well-balanced organic meals will not only benefit the overall physical health of children, but also enable higher learning capabilities with its direct correlation to mental development.

We provide organic hot lunches delivered in biodegradable containers directly to your child at school. Each meal will include at least one source of lean protein, a carbohydrate (starch, grain, pasta, or bread), a vegetable, and  fresh fruit. All meals will be made fresh, from local organic meats, produce, and whole grains.  We value the importance of well-rounded, nutrient-rich meals for our own children and want to provide families with healthful eating options at school.  Food that does not get finished can be taken home in the eco-friendly containers to be reheated later. Drinks will not be supplied, so we ask that parents please provide a drink and non-disposable eating utensils.

Allergies and Diet Restrictions
We can cater to vegan and vegetarian diets and customize meals for children with dairy, egg, or gluten allergies. Specific menus for dietary restrictions are available upon request and highly specialized meals are subject to a price increase.

ECO CONSCIOUSNESS

BIODEGRADABLE CONTAINERS

All meals will be delivered in recycled containers that are tree-free, biodegradable, and made out of sugar refining waste. To learn more about our containers, please visit www.treecycle.com (A company that originated in Montana).

FRESH FRUIT CUPS

The fresh fruit will be kept chilled and separate, served in mini Tupperware bowls that will be returned after each meal to be washed and sanitized. This eliminates the use of plastic bags and reduces waste significantly.

REUSABLE SILVERWARE

In an effort to minimize as much waste as possible, we ask that parents supply their child with silverware from home on the day(s) of delivery.  Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be the silver you received for your wedding.
